Aloha! I am Karen Furtado the owner of Shear Magic Pet Salon Boutique and
Dog Training located in Hilo, HI. Prior to my return to the great State of HI in 2005, I had the opportunity
to work for Petco Animal Supply Inc. for over 8 years. During my career with Petco, I held the positions
of Pet Stylist,  Grooming Salon Manager and the Grooming Training Manager of AZ. As the Grooming Training Manager of AZ, I became part of Angela
Clark’s Pet Services Team on the West Coast and had the opportunity to work first hand with both Angela and Christy
Van Cleave. This was a great experience both on a personal level and enhancing my career development.

Inc. for 12 years and during my time with Petco, I worked for Angela as a Satalight Grooming Training Manager and Grooming
Salon Manager. Angela has taught me a lot about the grooming industry and has always been by my side with her expertise. I

may concern, I was hired at Petco 6-1/2 years ago thanks to Christy Van Cleave. I was hired as
a Brusher Bather in the grooming salon and with her encouragement I applied for her grooming school. And I was accepted and
now 6-1/2 years later I'm still a groomer and loving it. Christy is a formidable teacher and she is tough, but fair. I learned
so much from her, her knowledge of grooming is amazing and because of her I have no more room for new customers because I
have so many request customers! Because she spent so much time with our class on details of proper
breed cuts, styles for the mixed breeds, safety, and how to keep your customers coming back and asking for only you!!! Christy
has kept me encouraged, helped me to move on farther with dogs and now I'm the senior dog trainer at my facility and a mentor
to employees becoming dog trainers. Without Christy's training and follow-up through the years I would never have gotten this

I have
known Christy Van Cleave since 2005 when I attended her Petco dog grooming class in Escondido, California. She
impressed me right away with her professionalism and her knowledge. She provided an excellent hands on
learning and training environment. Her technical skills and creative grooming techniques are top of the
line. She also taught an extensive curriculum of pet nutrition, pet products, pet behavior and handling,
as well as the history and variety of pet breeds. I also learned in depth about the various grooming tools
and equipment and how to operate a full service salon. She made learning fun with her outgoing and friendly
personality. I enjoyed her class immensely and highly recommend her as a teacher. It
is obvious that Christy enjoys what she does and she is very good at it. I did move on to open my own mobile
